LBS is excited to start up Guitar Club for the month of May! Guitar Club is for students in Grade 2-6 that have some experience with a guitar and are interested in learning some new skills. Netball

Netball Blog

Lake Bonavista School is participating in Netball from April 30 until May 7th in our gymnasium. This sport involves foundational movement skills such as jumping, running, throwing, and catching. As described on the Netball Alberta website (www.netballalberta.com): “Netball is an exciting, fast and skillful game of fair contest: It is a game in which two teams of seven players each strive to keep or gain possession of the ball. Players have specified areas in which they can move.”
Parent Council has graciously provided the funding to bring this event into our school.

Consent forms have been sent home in your child’s communication folder. Please sign and return the forms so your child is able to participate in this fun LBS event!

Thanks,

Active Living

Humboldt Broncos Jersey Day

Dear Parents and Guardians,

As we are hearing about the terrible tragedy that occurred in the province of Saskatchewan to the Humboldt Broncos Junior Hockey Team we feel shock, sadness, empathy and so many other emotions.

At Lake Bonavista School, we would like to show our support for the people connected to this sad event. A group of British Columbia hockey parents are asking Canadians to wear a jersey on Thursday, April 12 to show support for those that have been impacted by this tragedy. (https://globalnews.ca/news/4130525/humboldt-broncos-crash-hockey-jersey-day/). If students do not have a jersey, they can wear something green.

Students will also be invited to write messages of support that will be collected into a book format and sent to the public school in Humboldt Saskatchewan.
Thank you for supporting our school community's efforts to support the Humboldt Broncos community.

Ukrainian Easter Eggs

Hello families,

Continuing with the concept of culture, students began learning about the upcoming Ukrainian Easter celebration. Students shared what they knew about the celebration and learned some of the ways that Ukrainians traditionally choose to celebrate their Easter through food, symbols and pysanky making.

On Wednesday, April 11th students will have the opportunity to create their own pysanky eggs using traditional tools (beeswax, kiska, and a tea light candle flame). In order to prepare for this learning activity students have been asked to create a nest for three raw white eggs to bring to school either on Tuesday or Wednesday. A few ways to create nests were shown and discussed on Friday. Creating a nest at home will help ensure the eggs arrive safely, with the hope of the psyanky eggs being returned home safely after they are inscribed on.

Please make sure your child is also wearing clothing to school on Wednesday that is okay to get the colored dye on.

Room 5 is looking for volunteers to help us out!

When: Wednesday, April 11th

Time: Approximately 12:30-2:30pm

No experience needed, we'd just love some extra hands to help us out!

If you have your police clearance please email Mrs. Melindy by Monday, April 9th.

Thanks!

Scholastic Book Orders

Dear Families,

This month’s Scholastic Reading Club flyers are now available!

Please take a few moments to explore the selection together and let your child help choose books he or she is excited to read. When children choose their own books to read for pleasure, they enjoy reading more and spend more time doing it!

Scholastic Reading Club flyers are made for you and your child to shop for books your child will love to read. Each month, the flyers are filled with trusted, excellent quality children’s books that are just right for your child’s reading level and interests.

Once you’ve made your selections, there are two ways to order:
  1. Submit your order and pay by credit card online at Scholastic.ca Click on the section where it says connect with your teacher and put in all the necessary information until you come across Amber Melindy. Your online order will be sent to me automatically.
  2. Return the paper order form to me with a cheque made out to Scholastic Canada.

Please submit your order by April 13th, 2018.

Thank you for supporting your child’s reading success both at home and in the classroom!

April 3rd, 2018

Hello families,

Tomorrow is library. Please bring your books to school to exchange or renew.

We are learning a new song for our upcoming assembly. Our assembly will be held during the first part of May in the morning. We will let you know the finalized date and time soon. The song we are learning is called "Sing It Together." Here is the link: Video with Lyrics

This morning we played a BINGO game with the entire class. We had to ask everyone what they did during their Spring Break and record it on our Bingo Card.

We are bringing home new Spelling words for the week.

Today we measured the length, width, and height of our Matryoshka Dolls. Some of us are continuing to work on our Nesting Doll story.

Today we went back to normal Lunch and Recess schedule.
